Five EuroBasket 2022 champions for Spain in next window FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023
The pool of 15 players that Spain will use for the upcoming window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers includes five teams that were just recently declared champions at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 tournament.
Sergio Scariolo has asked European champions such as Dario Brizuela, Alberto Diaz, Jaime Fernandez, Joel Parra, and Sebas Saiz to join the side that will compete against Italy away from home on November 11 and in the Netherlands at home on November 14.
The victor of the match between Spain and Italy will have a significant advantage over their rival in the race for first place in Group L of the Second Round, which will help them better ensure their qualification for the World Cup the following year.
Eleven of Scariolo’s fifteen players have already participated in at least one of the European Qualifiers games that will take place between now and next summer, so the team as a whole has a good understanding of how these competitions work. In February of 2023, Spain’s final two games in the European Qualifiers will be away against Iceland and at home against Italy. Spain’s goal is to have secured their spot in the tournament before the final window opens.
