Gomez de Liano of Gilas is eager to learn from the best in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2022
Juan Gomez de Liano is ecstatic that he has been able to remain faithful throughout his life since it has enabled him to realize his lifetime desire of traveling the world while playing basketball.
“My lifelong ambition is to see as much of the globe as I can through travel. And while you’re at it, you can play basketball. That would be such a wonderful gift, “earlier in the month of September, Gomez de Liano was quoted by ESPN as saying.
As a result of following that path, he is now living out a long-held ambition of playing professional soccer in Europe.
After signing with BC Wolves of the Lietuvos Krepsinio Lyga (LKL) in Lithuania, the young player, who is now 22 years old, is going to write a new chapter in his young career. This is an opportunity that he thought would never come his way because his first stint playing basketball overseas did not go as planned.
“They had faith in me and provided me with an opportunity. The Gilas swingman expressed his gratitude to the Tiebreaker Times, stating that he would not take this opportunity for granted. “I’m glad I just kept the faith and didn’t give up,” the speaker said.
In a separate interview with CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk, he stated, “I felt that here is the greatest environment for me to grow.”
“Basketball in Lithuania is a lot like basketball in the Philippines; it’s the most popular sport, and players and fans take a lot of pride in it. They have a lot of passion for the game, and it’s almost like a religion in some parts.
Gomez de Liano didn’t hesitate to say that after a disappointing season with Earthfriends Tokyo Z of the Japan B.LEAGUE’s Division 2, he almost gave up hope. However, he kept believing that one day he would find himself in a scenario that was significantly better than what he was in at the time.
Now, he is, and a big reason for that is because he made the decision to go back home. In the PBA Development League, he competed with Marinerong Pilipino and finally won the Most Valuable Player award after averaging 18.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
And that accomplishment ended up being the key that opened the door for him to this opportunity in Lithuania.
“A lot of times I was doubting myself… that maybe my foreign ambition was just that, a dream,” he added. “It took me a long time to get over that.” After I was given the Greatest Valuable Player award, I received interest from a few different club teams; however, the BC Wolves actually showed the most interest.
Gomez de Liano arrived in the city of Alytus over the weekend
He can’t wait to get started working with the newly-founded ball club. He is filled with so much excitement about the amount of experience that will be surrounding him at the club, and he can’t wait to get started. Gomez himself has some experience playing for the Philippines national team, whether it was at the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers or in earlier windows of the World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers, so he’s hoping to gain a lot of experience from the personnel at his new team. Gomez played for the Philippines in the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers and in earlier windows of the World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers.
For those who are unaware, the head coach of the Wolves is none other than the legendary Lithuanian basketball player Rimas Kurtinaitis. Rimas Kurtinaitis was a member of the Lithuanian team that won the basketball competition at the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, in the year 1988.
In the meantime, its president, Rimantas Kaukenas, is another renowned figure. He is a proven winner, having won multiple club titles in both Lithuania and Italy, as well as a bronze medal with the Lithuanian men’s national basketball team at the 2007 Eurobasket tournament.
“Simply being able to benefit from their expertise and direction, as well as the opportunity to absorb as much information as possible from them due to the vast amount of experience they have gained while playing the game. Personally, I stand to gain a great deal, “According to the article by CNN Philippines, he stated.
Gomez de Liano will also be playing alongside Marcos Delia, a member of the Argentinian squads that won silver in the FIBA World Cup 2019 and, just recently, ruled the AmeriCup 2022 in Rio de Janeiro. Gomez de Liano and Marcos Delia will also be competing in the FIBA World Cup 2022.
