Latvia and the United States shine brightly on Day 2 of the Crelan FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2022

Latvia were dominant on the second day of action at the Crelan FIBA 3×3 World Cup, which took place on June 22 in Antwerp, Belgium, the women’s team from the United States of America and the men’s team.
On Day 2, the Latvia men’s team did not waste any time on the court
They completed both games well within the 10-minute limit, with one of the games being the quickest of the tournament to that point (6 minutes 45 seconds playing time against China). It was time to tighten the screws as the club had allowed only 11 points combined in their previous two contests (22-6 vs. China and 22-5 against Japan).
Nauris Miezis, also known as “The Maze,” was the highest scorer for the Latvian team with 19 points overall. Miezis is a former world number one player.
It wasn’t quite a walk in the park, but the United States of America managed to pull out victories against both Austria (18-16) and New Zealand (19-14). Hailey Van Lith was named the Most Valuable Player of the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2019, and Lauren Cox, after having a scare with a foot injury, added 10 points for the side that has won the World Cup twice.

On Day 2, the men’s team from Lithuania and the women’s team from Belgium were the only other teams to have a perfect record. After a loss to Mongolia (21-15), Lithuania won two straight games against Chile before the time limit expired (22-15). After getting the supporters pretty nervous in the previous game against Mongolia, Belgium managed to get them pumped up and excited for the game against Egypt (19-6). (a close 12-8 win).
Laetitia Guapo and Marie-Eve Paget, both 3×3 Olympians, scored 11 points each in victories over Brazil (22-11) and New Zealand (16-10), propelling them to the top of women’s Pool B.
After two days of competition, we have a new top scorer, Nauris Miezis, who shot the ball well (9/14) and was faultless from the line. Following a 10-point performance against China, the Olympic champion scored nine points against Japan. His 19 points put him ahead of Belgian men’s star Thibaut Vervoort and women’s stars Aitana Cuevas (Spain) and Kamile Nacickaite (Lithuania).
