Prince Edward Island to host junior Wheelchair World Basketball Championship
Prince Edward Island, It is anticipated that this competition will serve both as a seeding tournament and a test event for the Canada Games that will take place the following year.
The junior national wheelchair basketball championship for Canada will be held from Friday, June 10, to Sunday at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Center on the University of Prince Edward Island’s campus in Charlottetown (June 12).
Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s executive director Wendy Gittens expressed her excitement about the top junior athletes competing in the Junior National Championship on Prince Edward Island. “We are excited to have the top junior athletes display their talent in Prince Edward Island,” Gittens stated.
“Future potential for both our men’s and women’s national teams will be shown at this competition, which will serve as a preview of what’s to come at the 2023 Canada Games.”
At the competition, athletes are expected to come from all of Canada’s provinces and territories, with the exception of those from the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon.
Both New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island
in addition to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, will be merged into a single team for the competition.
These two teams, together with Alberta and Saskatchewan, have been placed in pool A, while the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Manitoba have been assigned to pool B.
In order to be eligible for registration, a team needs to have a minimum of seven athletes and one staff member.
According to the regulations for registering, each and every team that consists of both male and female athletes is required to have both a male and a female coach.
During the course of the Championships, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport retains the discretionary authority to conduct arbitrary doping control tests at any time.
